Founded in 2013, Toncha Hardwood has been creating high quality solid wood pieces for home and business from our Vancouver-based shop. We specialize in European wood species, primarily the European white oak and walnut, but we like to experiment and play around with other wood species as well for any and all custom projects. More than just a another furniture manufacturer, we like to work closely with clients to create wonderful solid wood pieces that will be enjoyed for years to come.
Toncha is more than just our company name; it is a nickname that has been in our family for generations. Therefore, it was only fitting to give our company a meaningful name, one that is personal to us. As such, every custom product or project that we carry out, is personal to us. We put passion and pride into our craftsmanship and if the final product is not something we'd have in our own home, we go back and redo it until it is perfect.
We all want value out of the things that we buy, so how do we make our solid wood furniture valuable to you? This is the approach that we take on every project. Why? Because we want you to enjoy our product and have a connection with it. We want the wood to be appreciated for its natural and timeless beauty.
Each wood board gets hand picked by us for every project. Direct communication with our suppliers and manufacturers ensures that we only get premium quality wood that holds up to our high standards.
We have a long history of working with wood and can easily demonstrate differences between a great piece of wood and one that you probably wouldn't want to risk.
We offer a variety of wood species.
European White Oak, Walnut, and beech being our most popular options.
No matter which wood species you choose, you'll be getting the same premium quality and build.
Our products are made-to-order and built with the intent of lasting a lifetime. Making everything to order ensures that the product will be properly designed for its purpose and use.
We always look for the best way to make our products functional and durable, without compromising their overall aesthetic and look.
Our creativity and thinking outside the box comes to display during this step. Coming up with cool new ideas on the spot and finding new ways to create something enables us to tackle a fuller scope of the meaning 'custom built.'
We use only the best finishes on our products. Our go-to's, the natural oils and waxes, bring out the beauty of the wood without creating a superficial top layer.
Durable and tough, but smooth to the touch, these finishes are water and stain resistant. On top of that, they are easy to maintain and care for, and if needed, spot-fixes and re-applications are super easy too. We're always here for our clients, so if you ever need a patch kit because your kid decided to play around with a sharpie, we can hook you up.
We also offer a commercial-grade finish. This solvent-based polyurethane finish is a very durable option that is ideal for heavily-used items, especially in commercial settings. It creates a protective coat around the wood with a very low sheen effect.
Both finish options are highly durable and effective. It all comes down to your personal preference. For more character and feel of the product, we recommend the natural oil finish. Alternatively, you may choose our polyurethane finish.
Feel free to drop by our Langley store where we have samples of both finishes for you to see.
We do everything we can to give back to nature and our community.
We source our wood from sustainable, FSC certified, forests. Our hand-select materials for each project minimize waste and any off-cuts or unused materials get recycled or repurposed, usually for a good BBQ. Our sawdust gets used and recycled by a local farm for their daily tasks.
The glue we use in our jointing is non-toxic and solvent-free, as well as FDA approved for indirect contact with food.
Our natural finishes produce 0 off-gases and contain 0% VOCs which keeps us and the environment around us safe.
Whenever possible, we look to use other local and family-owned companies for supplies and collaborations, as we look to do our part in our community.
